An Awkward Gesture.
On January 20, 2025 Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States of America. During the ceremony, a special guest addressed the attendees with a short speech. Towards the end of the speech he said “This was no ordinary victory. This was a fork in the road of human civilisation,” and “This one really mattered. Thank you for making it happen! Thank you,” at which point he made a Sieg Heil salute and proceed to say “My heart goes out to you. It is thanks to you that the future of civilisation is assured.”
Predictably, there was an avalanche of comments on social media Calling Elon for doing what was undeniably a Nazi salute. Musk, like all cowards that are comfortable using dog whistles later said “the ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.”
For some reason, some people and a lot of the legacy media were either confused or unsure of what Elon’s gestures meant. Aaron Astor, a history professor at Maryville College in Tennessee posted on Xitter “I have criticized Elon Musk many times for letting neo-Nazis pollute this platform. But this gesture is not a Nazi salute. This is a socially awkward autistic man's wave to the crowd where he says "my heart goes out to you."
Maybe I am overreacting and seeing things that are not there. Maybe he is just awkward and throws out his hear at an awkward angle. I guess we should be kind and give him the benefit of the doubt, after all, we should give people a chance to show who they truly are. So what has Elon being up to since then.
AfD Party campaign
Elon Musk appeared remotely a campaign event for a far-right German political party, where he said "It's good to be proud of German culture and German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything," and "frankly too much of a focus on past guilt and we need to move beyond that." His appearance came two days before International Holocaust Remembrance Day, this year marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, and just a few days after made a straight-armed gesture that looked identical to a Nazi salute at the Trump inauguration event.
Innocent Response?
On February 15 Trump made a post on social media quoting Napoleon and implying the he is above the law. At 2:14, or 14:14 Musk posted a response that consisted of 14 flag emojis, alluding to the number 14 3 times in without having to say a single word. So why is that relevant? Well, only because the number 14 is used by Neo Nazis and other white supremacist as a dog whistle that stands for The Fourteen Words, also abbreviated 14 or 1488, a reference to two slogans used by militant white nationalists internationally.
DOGE Logo
The logo for the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE includes an American flan enclosed by a gear with 14 teeth, reminiscing to the flag of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront, the national labour organization of the Nazi Party, which replaced the various independent trade unions in Germany during the process of Gleichschaltung or Nazification.
Maybe the legacy media, pundits and even the Anti-Defamation League were not sure if it was really a Nazi salute or just the awkward gesture of an autistic person, but you know who were sure what the gesture really meant? Actual Neo Nazis and White Supremacists.
Why was Elon so brazen during the ceremony and seemingly unbothered by the criticism that he has received. The simple answer is that he knows that there will be zero negative repercussions. He understands that the hardcore MAGA crowd is either aligned with white nationalism or willing to look the other way in order to support Trump and his plan to take the nation back to emulate less Woke times.
As an example, the administrator of a Nazi meme channel on Telegram wrote under a clip of Musk giving the "awkward gesture," “WE ARE FUCKING BACK." Members of the group responded with the lightning bolt emoji, a well-known neo-Nazi reference to the SS.
So Yahtzees are in The White House, now what? First., do not despair. Instead of giving up educate yourself on the issues and write/call to let your representatives know that you do not support Trump and his plans. Second., organize and create support networks for yourself and specially for people at risk. Third., Do not comply in advance. Participate in peaceful protests remaining safe, helpful and non violent.
